State Pony Club organisations are autonomous in running their functions but have members on a national council. The Pony Clubs within Australia are grouped into zones and the ACT region is Zone 16.

Pony Club instructors follow a national curriculum which is based on the English Pony Club curriculum of 1928. Like Scouts and Guides, Pony Clubs are international, with organisations in more than 30 countries around the world.

The Australian Pony Club Council produces an intermittent newsletter which is printed and distributed by the Saddleworld franchise. The newsletter is available at Saddleworld outlets or you can be put on the mailing list by writing to APCC, PO Box 46, Lockhart NSW 2656.

PONY CLUB INSTRUCTION

Pony Club instructors are accredited under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. The Australian Pony Club Council's NCAS Level 1 syllabus was approved by the ACC in July 1994 and the course is made up of two components: the Joint Equestrian Coaching Committee's Core Course which covers coaching competencies that are common to all equestrian disciplines; and a Sports Specific component that is unique to Pony Club Coaching. As well as completing these two components of the course, Pony Club coaches must also have completed six months practical coaching before they can become accredited with the ACC as a NCAS Pony Club Level 1.

PONY CLUB MEMBERSHIP

Membership of Pony Clubs is generally available on a family basis or to individual adults (over 25 years) and Associates (17-24 years). Juniors may only join under a Family Membership which includes at least one parent/guardian who will provide active support for the club's organisation and activities. A Riding Member is one who participates on horseback in Pony Club activities of any kind, necessitating payment of registration and fees to the Pony Club Association of NSW. Where an applicant has been a member of another Pony Club a transfer certificate must be issued by the releasing club. When transferring between clubs, a rider may not compete for either club for a period of 30 days from the date of transfer unless the transfer is associated with a change of address.

The Australian Pony Club has approximately 70,000 members among 950 branches. This makes the Australian Pony Club the largest national organization within the Pony Club community. It is divided into 6 regional associations corresponding to the states and territories within Australia.

There are 24 clubs within Zone 16 Pony Club district. With the exception of Canberra Riding Club, all clubs affiliated with Zone 16 are named Pony Clubs.
