VETERINARY CAREVeterinary practice in the ACT is controlled by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1965 and veterinarian registration is administered by the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Board. All veterinary surgeons must be registered by the Board before commencing practice in the ACT. The Board keeps a list of all veterinarians currently registered and a list of specialists. Qualifications recognised by the Board include the four Australian veterinary degrees (Universities of Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland and Murdoch University), the New Zealand degree from Massey University, and any one of the seven British degrees. Queries about registration or about specialist qualifications should. be directed to the Board. If you have a concern or a complaint about the practices of a particular veterinarian in the ACT region, you may lodge a complaint with the Board through the Registrar:
The Australian Veterinary Association (ACT Division) represents the views of veterinarians within the ACT. Membership is not compulsory. In the case of a dispute between a veterinary practitioner and a client, the AVA offers a mediation service through its Ethics Complaints Committee. For further information write to the Chairperson:
