Equestrian Trail System
The Bush Capital has many riding trails for horses. To complement the
system of government horse paddocks, there is a planned system of equestrian
trails. As well as providing corridors from one government paddock to another,
these trails link the suburbs of north and south Canberra and the major
equestrian facilities. While they are generally located on the periphery of
residential areas or pass through greenbelts between the major suburban areas,
these trails are not single purpose, and are available for use by joggers and
walkers as well.
The equestrian trails are between 5m and 10m wide and are planned for horse
and rider. Unfortunately there is no provision for harness horses. To provide
gates big enough to allow access by carriages would also allow access to cars.
Throughout the system of trails, water crossings have been made safe, with
signs indicating flood hazards and water depth, and underpasses have been
provided at some major road crossings. The
Bicentennial Trail links up with
and utilises the ACT trail system on the route between Tuggeranong and Hall.

A map of the trail system exists but it is currently out of date. Plans to
update it are dependent on funding. Nonetheless the map is still very useful.
